They started fighting against government's gentrification projects in the capital Belgrade, claiming they were illegal and inspired only by greed and power. But for a year now, a citizen group, Initiative "Do Not Drown Belgrade" has been fighting against what they describe as unlawful demolition and construction of government-sponsored Belgrade Waterfront project which they say would devastate the river banks and endanger the city grounds. They inspired thousands of people to come out for protest, making their initiative the first real grassroots movement in Serbia.
