David Fincher Is Definitely Directing the 'World War Z' Sequel

Remember World War Z, Brad Pitt's franchise gambit that was such a nightmare Vanity Fair gave the production mess its own cover story? Well, the World War Z sequel has been running into similar trouble. Paramount pulled the movie from its 2017 release schedule back in February following the departure of its director, J.A. Bayona.

But now, David Fincher is stepping in to bring the film back to life like the thing that turns corpses into zombies or whatever.

Fincher is officially on the project, according to a recent Hollywood Reporter interview with Paramount head Jim Gianopulos. Gianopulos said that the sequel is currently in "advanced development" directed by Fincher "and Brad Pitt." The duo originally worked together back in 1999 on Fight Club.

Gianopulos probably doesn't mean that Brad Pitt is literally directing alongside Fincher, just that Pitt's helping with the development—but after the maniacal control he wielded during the original's production, who knows how hands-on the star has been.

The first World War Z slayed at the box office regardless of the on-set issues and shitty reviews. Whatever the sequel turns out to be, at least we'll get a couple omniscient, Fincher-y oners while a sea of zombie hordes feast on innocent bystanders, so there's that.
