The new trailer for Good Time—the hard-edged New York crime thriller that earned a riotous standing ovation at Cannes last May—is here, and it looks fantastic.
The movie stars a bleach-blond Robert Pattinson as a would-be bank robber from Queens desperately racing to get his brother, played by Benny Safdie, out of Rikers. According to the film's official synopsis, that journey leads him "on a mad descent into violence and mayhem," which is always a delightful thing to watch. Benny Safdie is doing double duty on this one, since he also co-directed Good Time with his brother and creative partner, Josh.
The Safdie brothers were previously responsible for 2015's Heaven Knows What—the breathtaking verité dive into the New York junkie scene. And from the buzz following Cannes and the look of this trailer, Good Time is a worthy followup.
Variety called the film a "career-peak performance" for Pattinson, and compared it to iconic 70s New Hollywood films like Dog Day Afternoon and Taxi Driver. Hollywood Reporter said it's a "richly textured genre piece that packs a visceral charge."
The movie hits theaters on August 11. Watch the trailer above and get ready to clap for six minutes once it's over.
