Nine Arrested at Seattle May Day Protests
Seattle police said nine people were arrested during clashes with anti-capitalist protesters on Sunday evening. Five police officers were injured as rocks, bricks, and Molotov cocktails were thrown. The violence followed a peaceful May Day march by advocates of worker and migrant rights. — The Seattle Times

Teacher Strike Shuts Down Detroit Schools
More than 40 schools in Detroit will be closed today after the union representing 2,600 teachers in the city called for a "sick-out" over pay. It follows an announcement by the emergency manager of Detroit Public Schools that there is not enough money to pay teachers after the fiscal year ends in June. —ABC News

Trump Accuses China of Raping America
Donald Trump has attacked China for "raping" the US over trade, accusing the country of currency manipulation, and "the greatest theft in the history of the world." The latest poll shows Trump holding a 15-point lead over Ted Cruz in Indiana, which holds its primary Tuesday. —NBC News

Massive Fire Destroys NYC Church
Firefighters were still battling the last flames Monday morning as a massive fire gutted a historic church in New York City. The fire at the Serbian Cathedral of Saint Sava in Manhattan began around 7 PM Sunday evening. No serious injuries have been reported. —CBS News

Russia Joins Efforts to Create Ceasefire in Aleppo
Russian officials said negotiations are taking place to include the city of Aleppo in a nationwide ceasefire across Syria. US Secretary of State John Kerry is in Geneva and is due to hold urgent talks with the UN envoy to Syria to help establish a cessation in the fighting in Aleppo. All ceasefires negotiated between Russia, the US, and other powers exclude designated terrorist groups such as ISIS and al Qaeda. —Reuters

Iraqi PM Wants Green Zone Occupiers Arrested
Prime Minister Haider al Abadi has called for the arrest of protestors who occupied Iraq's government district for 24 hours. The Shia activists left the Green Zone on Sunday, the same day suicide car-bomb attacks in southern Iraq killed at least 32 people. The attacks were claimed by the Islamic State, a Sunni Muslim group. —Al Jazeera

Puerto Rico to Default on Debts
Puerto Rico will fail to pay its creditors $370 million due today after crisis talks ended without a deal. Governor Alejandro Garcia Padilla said it was a "painful decision," but the government of the US territory could not pay the bonds without cutting essential services. —Bloomberg

Australian Says He's Bitcoin Creator
Craig Wright, an Australian tech entrepreneur, has announced that he is the creator of Bitcoin. Wright has provided evidence to back up his claim, using coins known to be owned by Bitcoin's creator. Early members of the Bitcoin community have also confirmed Wright's status. BBC News

The agency has been ridiculed for marking the fifth anniversary of Osama bin Laden's assassination by tweeting "as if it were happening today." The Daily Show responded: "If you live tweet the Bay of Pigs invasion, call us. Otherwise, stop it." —The Guardian

BeyoncĂ©'s new album, Lemonade, has stormed to No.1 on the Billboard 200, selling 576,000 copies in its first week. She becomes the first artist ever to top the Billboard 200 with her first six albums. —Rolling Stone

Malia Chooses Harvard
President Obama's oldest daughter, Malia, is heading to Harvard in the fall of 2017. The 17-year-old will be taking a gap year before attending the Ivy League university, according to the White House. —The New York Times

Hearing Held on Prince's Estate
A court hearing will be held in Minnesota this morning to begin the process of determining Prince's estate. Including the artist's music catalogue, it is estimated to be worth $300 million, but Prince left no will or trust behind. —USA Today

Bernie Sanders's Fundraising Machine Has Stalled
Following a string of losses, the Vermont senator's fundraising dropped dramatically in April, raising only $25.8 million. It marks a steep drop from the $43.5 million and $44 million he raked in during February and March. —VICE News

SpaceX Will Take You to Mars for $90 Million
Elon Musk's company has updated its price options to include a $90 million journey to the Red Planet. The damage for a Falcon 9 rocket launch into low Earth orbit shakes out at a mere $62 million. —Motherboard
