This Team of Brave Female Volunteers Is Fighting Polio in Pakistan

This Friday, May 6, HBO will air a new episode from season four of our Emmy-winning show. Last week, we investigated Iran's nuclear program and met homeless children living on the streets of Kolkata. This week, we go inside Pakistan's fight to eradicate polio and meet the teams trying to clean up hidden land mines from the Vietnam War in Southeast Asia.

On the first segment, VICE's Ben Anderson travels to Pakistan, one of the last fronts in the fight to eradicate polio. While vaccinating people against this disease is safe and easy, some neighborhoods in the country believe vaccinations are being used to carry out a conspiracy against Muslims or aid the CIA. We meet the team of female volunteers in Karachi who continue to vaccinate children, even at the risk of being targeted and killed by the Taliban.

Then Kaj Larsen travels to Burma and Laos to see the devastating effects that unexploded landmines continue to have in Southeast Asia years after the US planted them during the Vietnam War. He meets trained disposal teams working to neutralize the mines and cluster bombs in an effort to save innocent civilians.

Watch the trailer for Friday's episode, and keep an eye out for the rest of season four, airing Fridays at 11 PM, exclusively on HBO. If you want more VICE episodes to carry you through the week, you can watch our entire third season online now.
