It's been almost two decades since the Broken Lizard comedy team premiered its indie comedy Super Troopers at Sundance. The movie didn't really blow up during its subsequent theatrical run, but it wound up becoming a cult classic that inspired a generation of early-2000s teens to incessantly reenact the entire "meow" scene while scraping resin hits out of their bubblers or whatever.
Now, 15 years and innumerable "shenanigans" jokes later, a Super Troopers sequel is coming—and Farva, Thorny, and the rest of the gang are back in the film's first teaser trailer. There's also a ball-shaving gag in there, for nostalgia's sake.
The idea for a Super Troopers sequel was originally introduced during a Comic Con panel back in 2006, but after years of nothing but hints and rumors, the whole thing seemed like it was never going to come together—until Broken Lizard decided to crowdfund the entire production.
The Super Troopers 2 IndieGoGo campaign launched in spring of 2015 with a goal of $2 million. By the time the fundraising was over, they had over $4 million. The movie wrapped production earlier this summer, and now we have our first taste of the new footage.
Along with the trailer, the movie has a release date: April 20 of next year, because of course.
Give the teaser trailer a watch above. Super Troopers 2 is out 4/20/18 via Fox Searchlight.
