Jeffrey Epstein's Alleged Fixer Ghislaine Maxwell Was Just Arrested by the FBI

Ghislaine Maxwell, the British socialite accused of becoming the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein’s madam, has been arrested by the FBI, News 4 New York reported Thursday.

Maxwell has been accused of helping Epstein — a financier who escaped harsh federal charges during a Florida sex abuse investigation in the late 2000s — recruit underage girls so that rich men could abuse them. Maxwell has denied these allegations. But her whereabouts have been a source of speculation since Epstein died in police custody in Manhattan in late August, after he was arrested on federal sex trafficking charges.

Maxwell was reportedly arrested inNew Hampshire and will appear in federal court Thursday, according to News 4 New York. The FBI declined to comment to the outlet. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York didn’t immediately reply to a VICE News request for comment.

Julie K. Brown, the Miami Herald journalist who helped renew public interest in the Epstein case in her explosive reports on the Florida investigation, also reported that Maxwell is in custody.
