Banning Electronics from Flights 'Fails the Logic Test'

Multiple media outlets are reporting that the Trump administration will temporarily ban most electronics from the cabins of US-bound flights from 13 countries in the Middle East and Africa.

Reporters at CNN, the Hill, and Reuters say that passengers flying to the US on about a dozen airlines will be allowed to carry on cell phones and medical devices, but no other electronics will be allowed in plane cabins. In a since-deleted tweet, Royal Jordanian Airlines told customers "that carrying any electronic or electrical device on board the flight cabins is strictly prohibited." The news report says the decision will be announced by the US government Tuesday. Other electronics will be allowed in checked luggage.

Security experts on Twitter noted that the Trump administration either has a very specific security threat, or is sowing more baseless fear, uncertainty, and doubt.
